You know that itch that's there when you get something new? That itch of constantly wanting to stare at it, play with it, and experiment with it. I've lost that itch.
I've lost that itch for blogging. I get bored with things quite quickly. Well, ive never really been an avid blogger; on average about 2 posts a week. But right now, i dont feel like blogging at all. I find it more of a chore than anything else. Each time i write something, i struggle with ways to pen down my thoughts. I've never been good with words thus thinking of how to phrase and string sentences doesn't come naturally. Anyway, i'll still update this blog every now and then.
Hmm..okok on some updates. Most of the guys have returned home for the summer. Right now Yarlet (the hostel that i live in) is rather quiet. Apart from Sean and I, there are 3 French guys and an Irish dude. They seem nice, the French are especially polite when they talk. Their accent makes them sound awfully sophisticated. But it's hard talking to the them, cos they dont seem to catch our Malaysian slang.
Today, i asked Pierre "So far, how's your internship going?"
He replied "Oh no no, it's not far; its only 20 mins from here."
I replied with a smile. Never mind la, it wasnt anything important anyway. Just small talk
Tomorrow we'll be heading down-town to try to find part time jobs. It's quite hard finding part time jobs here, Stafford is really small, thus positions are limited. Things here are also way more official. Even cleaning jobs (clean toilet, mop floor) require a well-typed, professionally done resume. There are also things like insurance and governmental registrations. But it's alright, i've got too much time on my hands anyway. It feels so odd, after 5 months of rushing; all of a sudden, im so free. I've still not fully adjusted to this schedule. I borrowed an 800 page Econs book yesterday and hopefully ill be able to finish it before term starts. Im thinking of pursuing an MBA after graduation. But unless i get a scholarship, that will be quite impossible. My parents have sacrificed enough and they'll need to finance my siblings.
Hmm....so what have i been doing? honestly, nothing much. Watched a few jdramas & kdramas, dota, sleep & eat. I highly recommend Gokusen I and II. Its based on a jap manga. It's gut-wrenchingly funny and some parts are really touching. If u like kdramas, Super Rookie isnt too bad.
Oklah, that's about it. Sean plans to celebrate his birthday tomorrow. Should be fun.
Toodles!
I'll do justice to this blog once I get permanent internet connection. Right now I'm using the uni's comp so don't have much time to do proper updates. Anyway this is a mail i wrote mum. Should provide you guys with a brief idea on how the 6 of us are coping. Cheers.
Hi mum,
Just want to wish u happy birthday. Hope you'll have joyous and fulfilling year ahead. If i see something interesting that i think you'll like, i'll mail it over as a belated birthday present.
Anyway on some updates...
The weather has been a little unpredictable; strong winds and light showers throughout the day. I found the first two days cold, but i think im starting to adjust better now. I like the wind, it's a nice change from Msia's scorching sun. The wind here is as strong as Australia's, only diff is the temp which varies from 4-8 degrees.
Accommodation is good, we're all living on the same floor, so that's definitely a plus. There are 16 room on each floor, each room slightly bigger than Eu Ric's. Only problem with the rooms is that it's carpeted, so you get that stinky wet carpet odour. I bought a can of scented spray, so problem solved. We've been cooking for the past few days, only eating out a meal. Groceries here are reasonable; selection is superb. They seem to have a lot of pre-made food, where all you need to do is pop it into the microwave/oven and it's ready to go. Pre-made food taste lousy, taste like overnight food reheated (well technically it is, but I had expected better). So far i've made spaghetti, curry seafood rice, and pizza. The curry rice was from the pack, but I added prawns and mushrooms in, so im claiming it my own :)
Glyn introduced us to some Malaysian students yesterday. And we got to know a whole bunch of them (around 10) through these fellows. Nice and friendly ppl. Good balance of Malays and Chinese; no Indians though. The foreigners here dont seem to like the whites, they say they are noisy and rude. They advised to avoid young and rowdy teenagers as they can be racist at times. Thank God, we've not encountered this problem, yet. They told us of some hilariously; gut wrenchingly funny stories of out of control uni students. It seems that some ppl here at times give in to their animal instincts to mate when drunk. Worse of all they do it in public areas like the uni field. It's good that we've met up with these folks, most of them are older, ranging from 24-28, some doing masters. At least we've got ppl looking out for us.
Oh yeah...i got a prepaid card for the mean time, cos to get a postpaid line i need a bank account. Here's my number - 07856744415. I will either change to a postpaid line or get a new phone later. We will be heading down to town today to check out bank packages. The students here recommend NatWest, they say the authorization process is a lot quicker, around 2-4 weeks. Banks like HSBC and Barkleys can take up to 2 months to approve an account. Will tally my expenses and send it to you when i get a line, thus far i've spent about GBP 45. The main bulk went to a set of pillows which I desperately needed as the one provided was like a pillow from Africa - malnourished.
Will sms you once i reload the phone. It has no credit now. Anyway send my regards to the rest. Thank Eu Wern for the sms, tell him i love him too. Toodles!
Love,
Eu Gene
Be forewarned...this is going to be a boring post :)
The past 2 days have been rather productive compared to how I've spent the past 2 months. I sneaked into Year 3's orientation just to get a feel on what to expect when I head over to the UK. The syllabus is mostly the same, except for a few minor distinctions - a General Option module and a different degree classification. I enjoyed the sessions tremendously, especially the Idea Generation workshops that were conducted to help those who were still undecided on what field to embark on for thier FYP (dissertation). I also sneaked into the Business workshops which I must admit were somewhat more interactive and intriguing. Not surprisingly, the Business worshop were more beneficial. The lecturer was better prepared and handled all questions elegantly.
On a differently note...our (Ronn, Jm, I) submission for the HSBC Young Entrepreneur competition is almost done. Mr. Loh has been immensely helpful in assisting us in ironing out the details. He has also shed new light on areas we should improve on and some additional features we could consider implementing. Overall he loves our approach but feels that we need to be less technical in writing the proposal; more emphasis needs to placed on making it simple and easy to digest.
Okey, that's all the updates I have for this week, toodles!
Gave audio blogging a shot today. I had fun recording it, see if u like it :)
It sure beats typing!
